The City of La Porte City is accepting applications for its Homeowner Repair Program, an initiative designed to assist low- and moderate-income (LMI) residents with critical home repairs.

The Homeowner Repair Program provides grants for individual homeowners for eligible repair projects on single-family, owner-occupied homes. Repairs must address immediate health or safety concerns and can include roof repairs, plumbing, electrical work, siding, insulation, and more. Ineligible projects include cosmetic upgrades like cabinets, flooring, and appliances.
To qualify, applicants must meet income requirements (80% or below the area median income for Black Hawk County), be current on taxes and utility bills, and have no outstanding code violations. Each grant is issued as a forgivable loan, with the balance decreasing annually over a five-year period. If the home is sold before the loan term ends, a portion of the funds may need to be repaid.
Emergency repair funding may also be authorized outside of the normal application process when a situation poses an immediate threat to a household’s health or safety.
The deadline for applications is April 1, 2026.
